Breast reconstruction after cancer treatment is not just a cosmetic procedure – for most women, it is a crucial step in regaining self-confidence and a sense of femininity after a challenging period.
Thanks to advances in plastic surgery and modern anesthesia techniques, this reconstruction can now be performed in a much gentler and more patient-friendly way – often without general anesthesia.
One such innovative method is breast reconstruction under regional anesthesia, which significantly shortens recovery time, reduces pain, and allows women to remain awake during the procedure, going home the same day or the next.
In the TV show “Dobro jutro, Hrvatska” Prof. Domagoj Eljuga, MD, PhD, Croatia’s leading expert in breast reconstruction and oncoplastic surgery – and one of the few surgeons in the region who regularly performs this technique – spoke about the benefits of the method, how the procedure works, and who the ideal candidates are.
