PRIMAMED SPECIAL HOSPITAL ENSURES TOP MEDICAL CARE, INDIVIDUALIZED APPROACH, MODERN DIAGNOSIS AND THE BEST EXPERTS FOR ALL PATIENTS, DIRECTOR PRI. DR. SC. GZIM REDZEPI, DR. HONEY.
You are the director of one of the most modern private special hospitals in the wider region, Primamed Special Hospital, which was officially opened at the end of May in Zagreb. Your goal is to set the highest standards of health care in the region with superior medical care, an individualized approach, modern diagnostics and with the best experts. How did the idea of establishing a special hospital come about?
More than 12 years ago, we founded the Apnea Diagnostic Clinic, where we primarily dealt with respiratory medicine and sleep-disordered breathing. During the coronavirus pandemic, there was a need to expand our activities, considering that at that time we did not have the necessary branches of healthcare for complete medical diagnostics and treatment of patients. Three years ago, we expanded our activities, invested significant funds in purchasing equipment and decorating the Primamed Special Hospital with the aim of branding the hospital and the entire team, not just individual doctors or activities. The healthcare market in the Republic of Croatia is growing by itself, and there is no clear strategy for the development of the private healthcare sector, but it is a consequence of society's need for a different opinion and a better approach to treatment.
Looking at all these trends in the countries of the region, without entering into the comments of public health and other private institutions in Croatia, our desire is to become a reference hospital in the field of medicine that we deal with. We develop and work intensively on a completely individualized approach to each individual. Namely, at Primamed, we believe that by smartly implementing technological innovations, we can significantly improve the way we care for our patients, making healthcare more accessible and efficient for everyone. Our care for patients does not end with their recovery, but we are involved in the entire recovery process, and it is important to us that every patient feels supported and comfortable during the entire treatment process. If in the future the regulations governing health care allow us to do so, we are seriously considering opening a general hospital with emergency admission and all activities from secondary health care.
How does your approach differ from other private hospitals or polyclinics on the market of the Republic of Croatia and the region?
Man as an individual is not a mathematical equation that everyone can be approached in the same way. We strive to personalize procedures in medicine, starting with our systematic examinations that can be completely individualized. Such a systematic examination begins with an examination by a clinical psychologist, and only then are followed by other examinations and tests specially designed on the basis of a conversation with the patient, epidemiological data, personal history, genetics, hereditary diseases in the family and lifestyle habits. In addition, we are one of the few special hospitals where both preventive treatment and treatment can be performed. Two weeks ago, we opened an operating block with two state-of-the-art operating theaters in the private sector, and perhaps in the public sector as well. Guided by a holistic approach to each patient, we prepare food for patients under the supervision of a nutritionist, adapting it to each patient individually. We are here to satisfy the patient's wishes if they are in line with their diagnosis and diet plan.
Who are your most frequent patients? Is treatment in private institutions becoming more and more popular in Croatia?
Treatment in private institutions is becoming more and more popular throughout Europe, including in Croatia. Our users are mostly people of mature age, that is, a working population that wants to provide themselves, their children and parents with the highest possible health care. Our focus is precisely on that part of the population that actively contributes to society and creates new values. The majority of users in our institution are women, for example they make up more than 70% of patients at systematic examinations. As a rule, most of the patients we treat at the sleep medicine center come at the persuasion of their wives, which improves the early detection of patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Our experience is that women are generally more responsible and have healthier habits than men.
The special hospital Primamed covers all areas of medicine, from laboratory tests, systematic examinations, internal medicine, but also today increasingly popular aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. What services do you offer?
In our special hospital, we have a medical-biochemical laboratory and complete radiological diagnostics, and we perform the activities of ophthalmology, gynecology, urology, orthopedics, sleep medicine, dermatology, plastic and abdominal surgery, otolaryngology, urology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, psychiatry and clinical psychology, all internal medicine branches, including pulmonology, cardiology and rheumatology.
Aesthetic and reconstructive procedures are performed by an expert team of doctors from the Academy of Plastic Surgery, consisting of associate professor prim. Ph.D. Rado Žic, associate professor prim. Ph.D. Domagoj Eljuga, assistant professor prim. Ph.D. Zlatko Vlajčić, Ph.D. Bruno Cvjetičanin and Božo Gorjanc, MD. With the expert knowledge of an expert surgical team that belongs to the very top of aesthetic and reconstructive medicine, modern technology and the latest operating techniques and rooms, we achieve excellent results of aesthetic procedures on the face and body. We take care of every detail because we want to be the leading center of medical excellence in the region and continuously improve diagnostic and treatment options. Our approach is based on the synergy of expertise, kindness in a modern hospital with the aim of building trust and lasting relationships with our patients, to whom we provide continuous support at every step, from the first arrival to complete recovery.
Recommendation for summer?
Given that May, skin cancer awareness month, has recently ended, attention should be paid to the prevention of skin cancer, especially melanoma. You should properly protect yourself from the strong sun, and strong and regular photoprotection, in addition to protecting the skin from developing cancer, prevents sunburn and slows skin aging.
Any person who has a large number of moles should have them regularly checked by a dermatologist. In our dermatology clinic, dermatological examinations are performed by academic Mirna Šitum and Dora Madiraca Glasović, MD.
